Contemporary: Heart Hole

The contemporary genre focuses on the everyday, and through it, we discover a sense of community. I believe this points to the heart hole of contemporary fiction: our need to be valued and valuable. The contemporary genre reassures us that our ordinary lives have significance, and its sense of community says we have something to contribute.

So we need to read the contemporary genre because it reminds us that we have value and are valuable, for if God does not forget even a common sparrow, how will he forget us who are of much greater value to Him than many sparrows! (Luke 12:6-7)
