Let Us Rejoice!

It says that God made today. A simple enough fact, right? Yet think about what that means. If God made today, then He owns it. It is His and His alone. No one else can claim it. That means today belongs to Him to use as He wishes and to give it to whom He wishes as He sees fit--and none can dispute it.

Moreover, if God made today, that means today exists in the form it does according to God's design. That means the good that today contains comes from God. It also means that the bad today contains is also there because God deemed it so; by intent or by permission, the bad of today is there because God has allowed it to be there, for somehow it advances His inscrutable will. That includes those annoying disruptions and those unexpected accidents. It includes that loss of a job, that debilitating illness, that death of a love one. That includes injustice and persecution, pandemics and riots and corrupted leadership. *Every* part of today is there by design--or otherwise how can we say that God made today?

Yet despite that face, we are told to rejoice and be glad in this day. Not because it contains good things and definitely not because it contains bad things, but but because of this simple fact: God made it. We can rejoice because today belongs to God and God alone. We can rejoice because He chose to share it with us. We can be glad because He is sovereign over all that today contains, the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Yes, this is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
