Historical: Characteristics

This historical fiction genre focuses on a time period prior to the writing, and therefore, prior to the time of reading. So the world being introduced by the fiction is probably not familiar to the reader.

As a result details are very important to this genre. It will have detailed characters, detailed descriptions, and very detailed settings. These historical stories will note anything and everything which will help the reader immerse completely into the world of the characters. Then this concentration on details will then merge with the historically-accurate language of the era: the prose will tend to be more beautiful stylistically, employing longer sentences and a larger vocabulary.
