Fantasy: Definition & Examples

The fantasy genre is defined as a story, often set in an alternate reality, which features the use of the supernatural.  
 
Examples of the fantasy genre in film & television:
  • The Lord of the Rings
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Pinocchio
  • The Princess Bride
Examples of the fantasy genre in literature:
  • C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia
  • J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit 
  • Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  • The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald.
