I don't read much sci-fi, but I enthusiastically recommend the Quadrail Series by Timothy Zahn. They are completely appropriate for family and probably kids 13 and up (with mild language) and while I don't know if the author is a Christian, the world view is definitely leaning towards Christian. They make great reads.
